THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

WAR DOGS (2016)

#80 is based on a true story. War Dogs (2016) is about two high school buddies, Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill) and David Packouz (Miles

Teller). David’s down on his luck when he comes across his old friend at a funeral. Saying he could use the help, Packouz is invited to join Efriam in his latest endeavor – becoming arms dealers! Diveroli’s found a government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts – and MAN do they start making money and living high off the hog and smoking major amounts of dope! And it gets crazy when their have to drive their own guns from Jordan through the Triangle of Death in Iraq to the U-S military (yep, they’re a customer!) But it gets even crazier when they actually land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afgan military (through the U-S government). Shady characters abound, as well as trips to the garden spot of Albania where they find the cheap ammo to sell – but the risks grow and grow. This is a decent black comedy, and Hill is extremely believable as the risk-taking, what-the-eff Diveroli, while Teller plays it straight and sees more and more downside in this career choice as Packhouz. Bradley Cooper pops up as one of those aforementioned shady characters who hates America and is on every terrorist watch list there is. It’s fun and obviously the story has been embellished but astonishing still that most of this story is true!

SHOULD TLA SEE THIS? Well, there are those picture-postcard sights of gray, bleak Albanian warehouses…
