THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

THE GOAL FOR 2018: 200 MOVIES WATCHED BY MIDNIGHT NEW YEAR'S EVE!  (AFTER TOPPING OUT AT 194 in 2017)

CAN HE DO IT?

THE VOICES (2014)

#15 of the 2016 movie countdown is last year's The Voices. It's an incredibly bizarre black comedy where Ryan Reynolds plays Jerry, who works in a Midwestern bathtub factory (!) where he wears pink overalls. Ok weird enough. But Jerry hears voices. Well, his dog and cat talk to him. The cat, Mr. Whiskers, is pure evil, encouraging Jerry to not take his meds and to be alive via killing people. Yep this is like a sitcom starring Norman Bates. When he takes his meds, he can'...t hear his pets talk and we see the true human carnage in his home. Oh yeah, and three human heads get stashed in the fridge, and they speak to him too. This film may have worked on some level but some truly awful flashbacks to his childhood are really upsetting and take you out of any kind of comedic moments. Anna Kendrick is one of the victims/heads in the freezer and Jacki Weaver is his shrink. This thing is the very definition of cult film because I'm hard pressed to figure out who this was made for. Featuring an appearance by Jesus Christ, pink forklifts, NatGeo videos of animals getting it on and a song and dance number over the closing credits. Oh and the film was entirely shot in Berlin. Only for the truly adventurous.
