THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN
#65 is the brand new release Unforgettable and you won't forget this one for a long while!! Why? Because it's obvious, overt, ridiculous AND delicious- no doubt in my mind that this will be a Bad Movie Night staple! It features Katherine Heigel, rumored to be one of the biggest bitches in Hollywood, playing one of the nastiest bitches on the screen in awhile! She is Tessa, former wife of David (Geoff Stults), who has since met Julia (Rosario Dawson) and they are in love and going to get married. Tessa and David had a child together, Lilly, in hopes of keeping the marriage alive. Oh this poor kid - eight years old and with a frosty perfectionist mother who is the epitome of "icy." Tessa may have even mentioned something about "no more wire hangers," I'm not sure (Google it). She can't STAND her daughter being with Julia - or Julia being so happy with HER David. Heigl is pure quiet N-V-T-S here. ! Anyway, Julia has had problems in the past with a jerk of a boyfriend who was so out of control that she had to get a restraining order (which conveniently expires a few minutes after the movie starts). The psycho ice princess steals Julia's phone, downloads all sorts of personal data and starts a phony Facebook account (Julia doesn't do social media). And guess what she does? YEP she starts chatting with ex-jerk boyfriend as Julia, sends him dirty fake Photoshop photos of her and all sorts of other enticements to drop by and see her. And he surely does!! The plot is laughable - there was a LOT of guffawing in the theater - and doesn't make a single move you don't see coming! There is so much to ridicule here - but you be the judge. Unforgettable benefits from Heigl's calm lunacy but pulls out every cliche in the book. In the next-to-final scene Heigl is padding around in a long sheer white robe, barefoot, looking very Christlike, all the while holding a fireplace poker. I found this hysterical. Ex- Charlie's Angel Cheryl Ladd (!) turns up as Tessa's mother Lovey, and let's just say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Unforgettable is not a good movie, unless you are demented enough to pull out the black comedy here. Somehow, I don't think longtime producer and first-time director Denise Di Novi was looking to do a parody. But this is probably a fun movie if you watch it in the same loony spirit as cat litter commercial star Heigl performs it.
SHOULD TLA SEE THIS? Yes, for all the wrong reasons stated above
