THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

THE GOAL FOR 2018: 200 MOVIES WATCHED BY MIDNIGHT NEW YEAR'S EVE!  (AFTER TOPPING OUT AT 194 in 2017)

CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

Well now. #4 is 2014's Tusk, which has left me reeling. More comic than horror, although the tone changes radically from minute to minute, this is directed by Kevin Smith, who knows what he's doing. And in this one, an obnoxious podcaster (Justin Long channeling Smith) ends up in the wilds of Manitoba interviewing eccentric storyteller Howard Howe (a typically excellent Michael Parks). But Howe is not all he seems, drugging Long's tea and beginning to do terrible things to... him while he is unconscious. You see, he wants to turn Long into - a walrus!! That's all I will say about plot but this movie is some kind of amusing inside joke to Smith's legion of followers. It has cult film written all over it. And Johnny Depp (?!?) turns up in the last reel as some sort of French-Canadian Clouseau character that grinds everything to a halt. Really hard to recommend this to anyone - unless you're a diehard Kevin Smith fan.

TLA one-word review: Odd.
