THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

TOMORROWLAND (2015)

#45 of 2015 is the brand new Tomorrowland. I was intrigued by the trailers - thought we would give this a whirl. And while the first hour delivers with gusto, the second hour screeches to a halt when we get to Tomorrowland. I love Brad Bird's work but this effort was on the preachy side. It felt like a Wonderful World of Disney two-parter all of a sudden, with a save the world message and whatnot. I just became bored with the message and the delivery system. There are some great scenes that are great fun (a visit to a sci-fi curio shop in Houston stands out with the great Kathryn Hahn) but this is a rental. The kids in the theater we saw this in were bored and running around the theater, leaving, coming back, leaving again, etc. I wanted to join them. Side note: the manager of the theater heard TLA and I bitching about this movie on the way out and we told her how we felt. She said she was hearing a lot of the same and that there weren't many people going to see Tomorrowland. Smart people!
