SSSSS (1973)

I remember seeing SSSSSSS! (1973) at the Benn Theater in Southwest Philly when I was a kid. It was scary and creepy and had yukky snakes all thru it! Well I just watched the restored Shout Factory Blu-ray of SSSSSSS! and I'm here to report that it's still scary and creepy (if a little sillier) and yep, there are still yukky snakes everywhere! Dr. Stoner (Strother Martin) is a hepatologist who is doing research on snakes together with his beautiful daughter (Heather Menzies...). The doc takes on a new student assistant, David (Dirk Benedict). And, of course, he gives David lots of immunizations over the course of a few weeks to make him immune to snakes. And if you believe that, I've got a cobra farm in Cleveland to sell you. Soon David's skin and body temperature starts to change and the end of his existence as a "puny human" is at hand! This is a solid B-movie with a perfect cast and enough snakes to give anyone a phobia! And to my Facebook friend (and SSSSSSS! co-star) Heather Menzies Urich, it was just as much fun watching tonight as it was back in '73. And loved your recollections of filming on the disc! Still waiting for the sequel :)
