CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

SPY (2015)

And we hit #50 with Spy. Paul Feig directed Bridesmaids where Melissa McCarthy was so funny that she earned an Oscar nomination. This time he writes and directs a pretty funny take on the whole spy picture genre. McCarthy is very amusing with one liners so funny I am still thinking about them and laughing. But she actually goes beyond the humor and manages to create a character that you care about and have sympathy for. Which makes the humor even more resounding. Gets silly and rude (and actually bloody) at times but this is a small gem. Rose Byrne is perfect as the Bulgarian villainess, Jason Statham plays a parody of himself and steals nearly every scene, and Peter Serafinowicz also runs off with scenes as Aldo, the most stereotypical romantic Italian spy ever. And of course there's 50 Cent. Definitely glad we saw this tonight. Recommended!

TLA one-word review: uproarious
