#20 - SECRET IN THEIR EYES (2015)

Secret in their Eyes (2015) is a major missed opportunity. Based on a much-heralded Argentine film, this stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as an ex-FBI agent who has taken 13 years to finally track down the killer of Julia Roberts' daughter. They had the guy caught once before. The dilemma was that in 2002, when the murder took place, the killer was a snitch for Ejiofor's counter-terrorism unit (which Roberts was a part of). The Los Angeles D. A. at the time (Alfred Molina) insisted ...he was more valuable as an informant that as a jailed murderer. So he walked. 13 years later, Nicole Kidman, then an assistant and now the D.A., is asked to reopen the case. And not long after - the script becomes ridiculous and impossible with characters saying and doing things only because that's what the script says they should be doing. Improbable becomes ridiculous becomes "are-you-kidding-me"! And Secret in Their Eyes becomes terribly disappointing. A great cast and a very intriguing premise are wasted. What a darn shame.

SHOULD TLA SEE THIS? It's no secret at all she shouldn't!
