CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

 ROUGH NIGHT (2017)

Wow what a waste of a terrific cast (Scarlett Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Jillian Bell, Zoe Kravitz and Ilana Glazer) in an attempt to do a female raunch comedy a la The Hangover with more than a little Weekend at Bernie’s tossed in.  It’s Johansson’s bachelorette party so all of her college friends gather in Miami for a wild weekend that pretty much gets started with a dead stripper (who’s not really a stripper) that Bell accidentally offs in a moment of lust.  And then we get to watch the girls play “hide the body” in a series of not-quite-funny vignettes.  Meanwhile, Scarlett’s fiancé (Paul W. Downs, who also co-wrote this) mishears Scarlett say on the phone she doesn’t want to get married anymore.  So he decides to drive to Florida nonstop – and, to get there faster, decided to wear adult diapers so he doesn’t have to stop for any reason.  Ha ha.  I guess those cars don’t need gasoline, right?   I could go on, and there are some amusing moments (like the swingers next door to their rented beachfront condo who take QUITE a liking to Zoe Kravitz) but overall Rough Night was a rough night for this viewer.  Not even Kate McKinnon’s antics can help this.
