THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

#146 is the recent Fox remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show which we finally got around to tonight. And after a superb opening and first couple of songs, it goes downhill rapidly. Laverne Cox has no menace and exudes no danger as Frank-N-Furter and settles for impersonating all of Tim Curry's line reads. Curry himself is here as the Criminologist, showing the effects of a stroke he suffered a few years ago, and it's impossible to watch and not think of that. Only in hi...s last brief scene does he manage to rise. Adam Lambert reminds of Meat Loaf while stamping his own mark here, and Staz Nair steals every moment he's on screen as Rocky, mostly with expressions or movements. He really makes this role his own. This RHPS is extremely mediocre, even incorporating scenes of the legendary raucous audience watching along. Doesn't work for a second. But there is a marvelous opening song featuring Ivy Levan doing "Science Fiction Double Feature" as an usherette that gave me high, high hopes. And then - letdown!! Time Warp was thoroughly botched. Time to pull the original out and watch it.

TLA one-word review: disappointing
