CAN HE DO IT?

#26 RINGS (2017)

Yep, the new sequel to the Ring horror movie. While this film sports a neat opening scene with the infamous Ring video playing on all of the screens on a Seattle-bound airliner, it quickly loses its edge and moves at a snail's pace. This story centers on a college professor (Johnny Galecki, Leonard of The Big Bang Theory) who discovers the VHS tape with the infamous video (once seen, you have seven days until you perish, unless you pass it on to others) at a garage sale. He sets up an experiment with members of his biology class (the video is now converted to a computer file) and staves off the effects of the video (i think it's a Ponzi scheme) but eventually bad things happen. A lot of meaningless backstory on the scary longhaired women Samara in the video is gathered and Vincent D'Onofrio pops up in a wasted role as a blind guy named Burke. Not a great film despite some interesting ideas. Like the characters say over and over again, don't watch!
