REMEMORY (2017)

This film is carried by the excellent Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones.  He is just marvelous in this combination sci-fi and whodunit flick.  He plays a guy named Samuel Bloom, who we see in a car with his brother, who’s about to make it as a legit rock star.  Both have had a little too much to drink and soon there is a tragic accident and his brother is killed.  His brother said something to Sam before he passed – but he didn’t hear it – another everlasting regret.  That MAY be why Sam is so interested in the work of Gordon Dunn, played by Martin Donovan – he’s invented a machine that allows people to record and play back their own memories.  But Dunn is suspiciously killed before there is any contact between the men.  Sam visits Dunn’s widow, played solidly by Julia Ormond, and tells her of a connection between the two men.  He then sneaks back into the house and steals the memory machine, wanting to find Dunn’s killer.  It’s pretty likely it’s one of the member of Dunn’s handpicked test group. And they ALL have reason to want to see Dunn dead.  One of them is an unstable played by Anton Yelchin in his final performance and he’s really good here.  We’ll miss him.  So this turns into a solid mystery as Sam tries to figure out who did it – and there is plenty to unravel about Sam’s past as well.  Rememory is a good one and Dinklage is excellent in this.
