THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

#162 is one of director David Cronenberg's seminal works, Rabid (1977). A young woman (porn star Marilyn Chambers) is in a bad motorcycle accident and can only be saved via emergency experimental surgery at a nearby plastic surgery center. She is saved but suddenly gains a taste for human blood via a phallic-looking appendage in her armpit (!). Her victims spur a rabies-like epidemic that overruns the city of Montreal. Cronenberg's early horror works are typically messy affairs having to do with the body and this is no exception. More uncomfortable than scary, Rabid looks a little dated but still creepy and yukky. Chambers is OK in a non-porn role and suits this material perfectly.

TLA one-word review: icky (yes i know I used that for Cooties - no other word fits!)
