THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY (2016)

Looking for something that wouldn’t tax my brain, that I wouldn’t have to think about, with likeable amusing sorts of people on the screen.  My standards were low.  So while trying to kill a lot of hours on an airplane, I chose Office Christmas Party as my film to watch.  It was that or sitcoms and I don’t sleep very well on airplanes.  It passed the time.  The official website says: “When an overbearing CEO (Jennifer Aniston) decides to close her hard-partying brother’s failing branch, he (T.J. Miller) and his fired up co-workers (Jason Bateman, Olivia Munn, Kate McKinnon) decide to throw an epic office party to land a big shot client and save everyone’s jobs. Fueled by booze and bad decisions, things quickly spiral out-of-control in this wild and raunchy comedy. Get ready to work hard and play harder!”  McKinnon is amusing as the weird and weirdly dedicated HR director, Bateman is steady as one of the more normal employees and Olivia Munn is gorgeous.  Otherwise, buckle down for an R-rated overlong Saturday Night Live sketch that totally abandons plot and gets pretty idiotic by the film’s end.  I am not recommending this at all unless you are totally OUT of entertainment – like I was over the Atlantic.  Now if you CAN sleep on an airplane…
