CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

NUMBER ONE (1969)

I didn't really want to watch the meaningless Lions-Saints game tonight - so I thought I would watch meaningless movie #128 of this year - 1969's Number One where Charlton Heston is an aging quarterback contemplating retirement after winning a championship a few years earlier with the Saints. What's that? The Saints only started playing in 1967? They didn't win squat til 2009? Oh, pshaw! Seriously this may be the worst football movie EVER! Heston's character is surly, his football scenes are awful (did he ever in his life throw a football?), he pines for the football life he's about to lose but almost nothing in this movie exhibits anything that someone would miss! Special thespian award: all of the '68 Saints and their owner play themselves!! In actual scenes, not background cameos!! This thing is a head-scratcher. And done with the complete cooperation of the National Football League! FUMBLE!!!

TLA one-word review: uninspired
