MONEY MONSTER (2016)

Money Monster is #113 of the year and stars off well as a Jim Cramer-style host named Lee Gates (George Clooney) is hosting his slightly manic "Money Monster" financial show which is as much showbiz as stock advice. And then a pissed-off man (Jack O'Connell) with a gun sneaks in, takes Gates hostage on live TV, and wants to know why Gates' tip just lost him every cent he had - $60,000 bucks - and forces Gates to strap on a bomb vest as he holds the detonator. There is a lo...t of tension early on and director Jodie Foster keeps it amped up. Clooney is likable as always and Julia Roberts is stuck inside the control room as more disembodied voice than anything else but even she has her moments. Unfortunately, the plot gets more and more unbelievable as Gates allows the gunman to walk him down the street, with police and cameras watching, to catch up with the real villain elsewhere on Wall Street. Second half will annoy you a great deal. Money Monster fails in the home stretch, leaving a lot of talented people straining to keep you suspending your disbelief. Good luck with that.
