CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

#22 - THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE (2017)

#22 is The (brand new) Lego Batman Movie and while it has its moments, it is not The Lego Movie. Will Arnett is still funny as this version of Batman but he was funnier as a supporting character. Carrying the whole movie isn't as easy. The first 20 minutes or so are a scream that compare favorably to The Lego Movie but as soon as we get into the plot, which is that Batman is lonely and could use a family, it just becomes less interesting and more like a Saturday morning ca...rtoon. Gags are repeated too much (four riffs on the 1966-67 Batman show is at least two too many) and I actually found myself a bit bored at one point. Listening to Rosario Dawson's voice as Barbara Gordon was definitely a high point for me. I guess the original Lego flick has spoiled me - wanted to like this more than I did but gotta be honest. Will wait patiently for the Lego Movie sequel with fingers crossed.
