KILL SWITCH (2017)

The sci-fi flick Kill Switch (2017) has an intriguing premise and trailer – pilot and physicist Will Porter (Dan Stevens (known for playing Matthew Crawley of Downton Abbey) is offered a ridiculous amount of money to come work for a corporation attempting to find a way to harness unlimited energy, tapping into parallel universes.  He doesn’t care about the money but when they say they can provide the best medical care in the world for his sister’s ailing son, he has no choice but to accept.  Their experiments indicate that these parallel universes can have their energy transferred to our world clean and free. But something turns very wrong – suddenly Porter is on the wrong side of the experiment, chased by drones and soldiers authorized to use deadly force, everything is backwards, boats, trains and planes are being sucked toward a huge whirlpool in the sky and them slamming back to earth.  Yep, the world is imploding with him in it.  Kill Switch shows a good bit of first person camera a la Hardcore Henry but breaks up the first person deftly with flashbacks.  Unfortunately the plot is more than a bit convoluted but the effects are extremely well done.  Not much for the actors to do here but react to the wild stuff portrayed on screen.  You could do a lot worse than Kill Switch but you’ll probably forget all about it about 15 minutes after you finish watching it.  Available now On Demand and in theaters June 16th. 93 of 2017.
