THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

THE GOAL FOR 2018: 200 MOVIES WATCHED BY MIDNIGHT NEW YEAR'S EVE!  (AFTER TOPPING OUT AT 194 in 2017)

CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

JOY (2015)

Joy takes the second slot on the '16 movie countdown. Gotta say that Jennifer Lawrence is outstanding as a struggling wife and mother who escapes her world by inventing the Miracle Mop. She transcends this material which seems a little too much. Her family seems a little too broken, if that makes any sense, giving her a tremendously overdrawn situation to overcome. Robert De Niro is her dad who isn't quite strong enough to help anyone unless he's in a relationship. Bradley Cooper adds a big spark of energy as the QVC programmer who gives Joy her shot. This is worth seeing, don't get me wrong. Jennifer Lawrence is outstanding and will get an Oscar nomination. But always looking for more than this from director David O. Russell and a cast like this.
