CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

INCONCEIVABLE (2017)

I know I just typed the numbers “2017” a moment ago to indicate what year this film was, but I could have sworn I was watching a variation of “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” or some 90s thriller.  Gina Gershon and Nicolas Cage are married doctors (and they seem to have a LOT of money).  She wants to have another child so her daughter’s not an only child, but is having trouble with miscarriages.  So she seeks a surrogate – and it turns out that a weird blonde named Katie (Nicky Whelan) has wormed into their life enough that she’s the choice to carry their child – despite the fact that they know little about her, Nic’s mother (Faye Dunaway) is highly suspicious of Katie and the fact their original choice as surrogate, the woman who introduced them to Katie, dies in a mysterious beach accident (three guesses who offed her).  Incredibly predictable, as Katie gets more and more looney, Gina starts to have doubts but at this point everyone tells her to knock it off!  Cage has almost nothing to do here except to play the concerned spouse and to say incredibly naïve things in order to move the plot along.  Gina’s good, but she’s trapped in a bad Lifetime movie – one we’ve all seen many times before.  Not thrilling, not surprising, not likely you should watch Inconceivable.
