CAN HE DO IT?

IN SEARCH OF FELLINI (2017)

This is a little off the beaten trail.  Nancy Cartwright, best known as the voice of Bart Simpson on The Simpsons, became obsessed with the famed Italian director Federico Fellini and spent the better part of three decades trying to meet him.  This is a fictionalized version of that story.  In this film, a young, extremely sheltered woman played by Ksenia Solo stumbles into a Fellini retrospective and decided she HAS to find him.  She lives with her extremely overprotective mother played by Maria Bello, who also is critically ill and doesn’t want her daughter to know.  Anyway, she flies off to Rome and ends up having adventures with colorful local folk, people who you might call Felliniesque, as she gets – and misses a couple of appointments with the great director.  Solo is adorable and fragile but starts to figure things out and you root for her as she tries to accomplish the impossible.  This is really a fantasy, a fable, and in the right frame of mind you’ll enjoy this light as a feather entertainment.  Cartwright turns up in a cameo – she’s the co-writer and one of the executive producers and it’s her story.
