THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

HARDCORE HENRY (2016)

#40 of 2016 is what will be lauded as the thrill ride of the year, Hardcore Henry, which from an energy standpoint makes Crank look like Brooklyn. This thing is shot 100 percent through the eyes of Henry, an amnesiac cyborg who wakes up to find he and his scientist-wife (who may have rebuilt him) in a ship hovering over Russia. They are attacked by a super villain and get out via an escape pod. And thus the carnage starts as the gore and the effects and the wild wild first... person view REALLY kicks in as the flick moves 200 miles an hour. It's silly as far as plot goes but exhilarating as Henry goes thru waves and waves and WAVES of henchmen and mercenaries!! It's like you are playing a video game from start to final level. It's sure as heck for certain tastes and those that don't get motion sickness easily. Sharito Copley (District 9) pops up as Jimmy, a scientist who can jump into different clone bodies (and each has his own personality). One highlight is when Copley performs "I've Got You Under My Skin" as he jumps from body to body to body (!). Yep this is nuts, astonishing, bloody as all hell and tongue firmly in cheek throughout. It must be seen on a big screen to really get the impact of Hardcore Henry. If the next wave of cinema is first person movies that ape the virtual reality game playing experience, then this could be a landmark film, the first of its type. Tread warily with Hardcore Henry. Opens April 8th.

Should TLA see this?? - yes, especially on a caffeine high!
