GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOLUME 2 (2017)

#86 is Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, which is another fun romp through the edges of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This time the cast is joined by Kurt Russell as Star-Lord's daddy, Ego, who's also a...nah, I'm not saying. And then there's Sylvester Stallone in what I thought was just a cameo but it seems there may be more in store for him to do...later! Great opening title sequence featuring Groot jamming to another 70s mix tape while the Guardians are battling some sort of gigantic dragon-monster in the background...and the sideground. Chris Pratt is his charming self as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord but he's got all kinds of daddy issues to deal with in this one. First they have to deal with The Sovereign, who hired them to protect their precious batteries from invaders. However, Rocket Raccoon (voice of Bradley Cooper) has pocketed those batteries, and The Sovereign is, shall we say, royally pissed? There's more individual character development in Vol 2 and you don't mind spending time with Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax and even Michael Rooker as Yondu. And I haven't even mentioned Baby Groot ( how much money DOES Vin Diesel get for saying "I am Groot"?). Enjoyable if a tad bloated at two hours and 15 minutes.
