GREEN ROOM (2016)

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

#181 is this year's Green Room. A traveling (and struggling) punk rock band takes an extra gig somewhere deep in the woods of Oregon to make enough gas money to wrap up their tour. The place is filled with neo-Nazis and skinheads but they power thru. Except that when they're about to leave, they accidentally witness a murder. And now they can't go because they've been locked in the green room while club owner Darcy (Patrick Stewart) is summoned. Green Room is one of the ...most suspenseful movies of the year -yep it's Walking Dead-level gory but it's certainly not all blood and guts. The late Anton Yelchin stands out here as one of the punkers fighting for his life. And, cast against type, Patrick Stewart is the club owner who needs them all offed in the name of cleaning everything up. His almost nonchalant way of engaging the band members or planning their demises with his "men" makes everything he says that much more creepy. Director Jeremy Saulnier does some great things here - anxious to see what his next move is. Recommended for those that can handle copious amounts of gore only - but you will be rewarded with a claustrophobic, extremely suspenseful film.
