CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

#15 GOD TOLD ME TO

#15 and #16 on this year's countdown is a pair of films I've seen many times from 70s & 80s writer/director/producer/guerrila filmmaker Larry Cohen. His scripts were unusual to say the least. He used the form of the exploitation film to tell stories that frankly no one else could get away with in more mainstream cinema. My favorite is God Told Me To (1976). Tony Lo Bianco is a NYC detective investigating a series of murders. A sniper on a rooftop, when asked why he opened fire on people below, merely says "God told me to". Others suddenly do bad things and say the same thing. Lo Bianco is a devout Catholic and starts to question his faith a bit. The places this film goes - well, I don't want to give away twists but this is a strange unusual film that you've probably never heard of.
