THE FOREST (2016)

2016 horror film The Forest starts off promisingly. Sarah (Natalie Dormer) has a twin sister (also Natalie) who is teaching in Japan who apparently goes into the Aokigahara forest to get lost. It's a real life place where people enter to commit suicide as it is impossible to find your way back out if you wander off the trails. Sort of like if you leave your room at the Opryland Hotel. Anyway, sis goes off to find her twin, insisting she is not dead. Everyone mutters unde...r their breath that you see things that are not real in the forest. And of course she sees all sorts of stuff that may or may not be real. The Forest has a deliberate pace as it seems to build slowly to something. But it never leads to anything. It gets progressively sillier and stupid, losing all the good will built up with a different type of story and open. At the end, we all ridiculed it openly and tore apart gargantuan plot holes that planes could have flown thru. The "scares" are much like walking thru a haunted house at an amusement park and being scared by various random employees in crappy makeup and fake blood. Very disappointing and typical of the movies that are dumped into January. #8 of 2016.

TLA one-word review: yawn
