THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

EYE IN THE SKY (2016)

The late Alan Rickman's final film is worthy of his talents, 2016's Eye in the Sky. This film is absolutely riveting as it depicts the setup of a drone attack in Kenya, a joint effort of that country, the US and the UK. Three terrorists, quite high up on the wanted list, have been followed to a house in a rural area. A further discovery is made - that elsewhere in the house, two suicide bombers are suiting up. A decision is made to take them all out rather then capture. ... All is set to fire a missile and take them out with very little collateral damage - until a sweet little girl sets up shop in the kill zone to sell her mother's bread - which makes the operation against UK law on killing noncombatants in drone operations. The debate rages then among many, including UK Colonel Helen Mirren, in charge of the operation, British Army General Rickman, and even the U-S pilot handling the drone (Aaron Paul. As the conversation continues, the conversation reminds one of 12 Angry Men - who's right? Who's wrong? If the suicide bombers escape, they may kill hundreds at a shopping center - including many sweet little girls. Excellent screenplay by Guy Hibbert and expert direction by Gavin Hood - Eye in the Sky is a must-see. Highly recommended. #174 of 2016.
