THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN (2016)

#167 is The Edge of Seventeen, an excellent film about the troubles of a particular teenager named Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld, who is outstanding) who has a hard time making friends, meeting boys and dealing with her older brother (Blake Jenner) and mother (Kyra Sedgwick). Her best and only friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson) falls in love with her brother which Nadine cannot handle and cuts her off as a friend. Her only confidant is a history teacher (Woody Harrelson, spot o...n) who has a sweet, funny way of handling her lunchtime intrusions. Edge of Seventeen is exactly what it should be - funny, knowing, heartbreaking and best of all, just about every bit of this film rings true. Kudos to the entire cast for deft performances - this feels like a John Hughes film except maybe a little smuttier. Extremely well written and directed by Kelly Fremon Craig (her directorial debut) who has a tremendous ear for dialogue. I can go on and on but you should really see it. Highly recommended.
