THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

INCREDIBLY OBSCURE FILM DEPARTMENT

DON’T WORRY WE’LL THINK OF A TITLE (1966)

This film deserves all of the obscurity it can get!  If I were to tell you that four members of the classic Dick Van Dyke Show were appearing in this, you may think there could be a chance for some laughs.  NOPE!  This film stars Morey Amsterdam, Rose Marie, Richard Deacon and (in a cameo) Carl Reiner from the Dick Van Dyke Show but it’s astonishingly unfunny despite that foursome plus a bevy of stars popping up throughout.  The plot has Morey and Rose working in a diner until they leave to go work at a bookstore upstate.  Funny, eh?  Somehow, someone mistakes Morey for a missing Russian cosmonaut which leads to CIA and KGB agents running around the bookstore. Hilarity doesn’t quite ensue.  That’s all you wanna know.  This film (co-written by Amsterdam) makes ancient vaudeville seem fresh and new.  Even cameos by Danny Thomas, Steve Allen, Milton Berle and others.  Despite all of the promotable stars, United Artists barely released this in ’66 – and with good reason.
