CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

#199 is the excellent and bittersweet comedy-drama Don't Think Twice (2016), written, directed and co-starting comedian Mike Birbiglia. Six creative people work in a NY improv group, Improv America, working toward a common goal of making it someday soon. Then one of them, Jack (Keegan Michael-Key) auditions successfully for "Weekend Live" (oh, you know, SNL), and suddenly the one-for-all feeling starts to rupture. Don't Think Twice feels incredibly honest - you ca...n feel their desperation in wanting to make it, their tearing at those that HAVE made it, and their gradual realization that, for some, it's time to settle down and find happiness in other ways. This film is funny but also very biting and acerbic. Kudos to Birbiglia, KM-K, Gillian Jacobs, Kate Micucci, Chris Gethard and Tami Sagher for making this feel real. Warmth as well as jealousy abounds in Don't Think Twice. Realistic with characters you grow to care about, warts and all. I think for me this is one of the best of the year. Highly recommended. Oh and special thanks to Irv Slifkin for telling me I needed to see this. Boy was he right!!
