THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggarth!! Doctor Strange is yet another Marvel hero who gets the perfect big screen treatment! The doc was never a favorite of mine, as it was a more serious and complex set of stories then your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man's adventures, but loved that Steve Ditko artwork. Benedict Cumberbatch, with that long face and his determined expressions seems as if he was created by Ditko! But it's not just that. DS takes elements of Inception, The Matri...x and Batman Begins and mixes with a decent dose of humor (certainly not from my memory of Doctor Strange) to tell the story of how arrogant surgeon Steven Strange had his hands damaged in a horrible car accident and searched the world over to find a way to restore his abilities. Ending up in the Far East, he discovers the Mystic Arts and another way to serve man, namely by bending reality, controlling time, and creating alternate universes. There is evil to be fought here, but his ego must be tempered, says the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton, who is almost unrecognizable here). I won't go on about plot but suffice to say that this film is great fun, with dazzling effects. The showdown with the dark force Dormammu is not at ALL what you will expect (it's brilliant) and there is a slow motion-in-reverse scene that also does something a little different. You don't have to be a comic book geek to appreciate Doctor Strange. Highly recommended. Oh and there are TWO scenes after the movie concludes - stay all the way through the credits. #154 of 2016.
