CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

THE DISASTER ARTIST (2017)

If you’re familiar with The Room, the so-called “worst movie ever made”, then you really need to see this.  James Franco directs and stars as the director-star of legendary “so bad it’s good” film The Room, Tommy Wisneu.  And it would have been easy to play him as merely eccentric and crazy – and that’s present.  But Franco finds the humanity in this goofy would-be Ed Wood of the 21st century, as we watch him meet Greg Sistero (played by his real-life brother Dave Franco) at an acting class and offer to bring him to LA to live with him and make a movie.  Tommy drives a Mercedes, seems to have an endless supply of money and possesses an indecipherable accent that Tommy claims is a New Orleans accent.  Yes it’s funny, but it’s sympathetic towards Wiseau, who, despite having no experience whatsoever, wrote, produced, directed and starred in a film with absolutely no experience.  There is affection for the source material here, and it shows.  Oh and check out the many celebrity cameos, some playing themselves.  Franco is just amazing as Wiseau.  Rumor has it he also directed the film in character as Wiseau.  Maybe there should be a movie someday about the making of THIS movie!

TLA one word review: hilarious!
