THE GOAL FOR 2018: 200 MOVIES WATCHED BY MIDNIGHT NEW YEAR'S EVE!  (AFTER TOPPING OUT AT 194 in 2017)

CAN HE DO IT?

#165 is the ultra-obscure Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street (1973). Part of the great director Sam Fuller's body of work, this was actually made as an episode of a German TV series and then (barely) released in U.S. theaters. Journeyman actor Glenn Corbett is a barely competent private eye trying to break up an international blackmail scheme. I think. Anyway, the film is a mess but I found this to be an amusing, interesting mess with Fuller spoofing these type of films. The satire isn't particularly sharp, but co-star Christa Lang, working not in her native language, is awesomely bad. So bad but so game and misfiring with gusto. So much so that I came around to really enjoy her performance. It's hard to recommend this movie to anyone but curiosity seekers and Fuller completists.

TLA one-word review: uninspiring
