COP CAR (2015)

Cop Car is a great little 2015 flick that has led to a 2017 summer blockbuster!  That's because the director of Cop Car, Jon Watts, was selected to direct Spider-Man: Homecoming on the basis of his work here! Good move, Marvel - because Cop Car is a good one, even if very few have heard of it. It harkens back to the early days of Joel and Ethan Coen as one day, two 10-year-old runaways are cutting through the woods when they come across a police car in the middle of nowhere. With the keys. So what do they do? They take some sweet exhilarating rides in the middle of nowhere. But the not-so-sweet sheriff (Kevin Bacon) was off burying a body nearby. He returns - to no car! And the story takes off from there. This is black comedy for about two-thirds of its run - but grows serious as we head to a climax. Bacon is perfect as a frustrated desperate man who can't believe what's happening. He rides the amusing/dangerous side of the sheriff just right. The kids are great, everything about this effort is worthwhile. A very polished genre film - if you remember Blood Simple and liked it I think you will enjoy this.

Elsewhere is the trailer and the scene where bacon asks the kids if they opened the trunk or not.  A very importamt question!!
