THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

Cooties (2014) is a decent horror comedy about a number of elementary school students who suddenly find themselves under siege by their students who have turned into raging zombies via one contaminated chicken nugget! Ejijah Wood is the substitute teacher who dreams of being a novelist, Rainn Wilson is the macho phys ed teacher, Alison Pill is the quirky but sweet teacher Elijah has a crush on and so on. Due to these folks plus Jack McBrayer and Nasim Pedrad, Cooties is amu...sing and stuff is well played for chuckes, not big laughs. But about halfway through it runs out of stuff to do and ends up as an average horror movie that is nothing special without the oddball tone established in the first portion. Consistency all the way through would have helped greatly, and the film ends SO abruptly that you won't be sure it's over. But it is. Oh and there is a great opening title sequence that shows how the chicken nugget got to be contaminated. Cooties isn't terrible on a slow night but could have been better. #158 of 2016
