THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

BROOKLYN (2015)

#1 film seen in 2016 is last year's Brooklyn. This is the simple, warm, wonderful story of young Eilis Lacey (Saoirse Ronan), who sets off from Ireland to New York looking for opportunities that don't seem to be there at home. She fights seasickness then homesickness and then starts to discover some of the things she's looking for, including love. But a family emergency calls her back to Ireland temporarily,... where she starts to see things happening for her there that never occured before. Now what is she to do? Ronan is perfection as Eilis - I haven't cared so much about a character in a movie this strongly in a long time. Brooklyn reminds us that not every film needs to be big and broad and overly dramatic. Sometimes a simple story told well and with feeling will get into your heart and you'll never forget it. This is what Brooklyn was to me. Please go and experience it for yourself.
