BASTILLE DAY (2016)

Bastille Day (2016) is a French-American thriller that had the misfortune to open in France on Bastille Day and was pulled from theaters after the Nice terrorist attacks. It's a good thriller if you suspend more than a little disbelief. American pickpocket Michael (Richard Madden) steals a handbag from a woman and finds not much valuable in it - just a teddy bear. He ditches it -and fins the bear contains a bomb which detonates, killing four people. CIA agent Brian (Idris... Elba, displaying the form that has him under consideration as a future James Bond) tracks him down, thinking he's involved with the terrorists. After a great (and Bondian) rooftop chase, Elba catches him where Madden tells his story. The two of them end up working together, especially when all sorts of corruption among the authorities is exposed. Exciting, fast-moving and entertaining, Bastille Day delivers the goods. #127 of 2016.
