THE BABADOOK (2014)

So we got together with Amy Fisher Martir and Thomas Farley after midnight Saturday night to watch what has been acclaimed as one of the scariest films ever - The Babadook. Sadly we did not find it a seat-grabber or filled with jump scares. But The Babadook is filled with all kinds of psychological discomforts. It is uncomfortable, unnerving and hard to watch at points. This is not a pan - there is a lot of creativity here, and the film does not cave to the typical horror film payoffs. But it felt at times we were watching the crazy momma from Carrie lose her marbles and threaten her boy (who was also severely warped). Mixed feelings. I'll have to look at this again down the road and adjust my expectations. #27 of 2014
