THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

#12 ARSENAL (2017)

Wow I have fallen behind on these writeups so let's get going...#12 of the 2017 Movie Countdown is Arsenal, which is a gory, bloody action movie whose director LOVES slo-mo, especially when people get shot (which happens a LOT in Arsenal). Shot in Biloxi, Mississippi, Arsenal is the story of two brothers, Mikey (Johnathon Schaech) and J.P. (Adrian Greiner) who had a lousy childhood. Mikey looked out for J.P. growing up, and now that they're adults, Mikey is a louse while J.P. built a construction company and did well for himself, but now he tries to look out for his brother. And his brother gets in trouble with the closest thing the town has to a mobster, Nicolas Cage Very average movie until Cage turns up. Oh. My. God. Nic Cage is GONZO over the top in this movie with a dark black wig, a weird 'stache and a mumblecore-type voice that occasionally gets LOUD!! When he is on the screen, Arsenal loses its MIND!!! He is truly the only reason to see it. He also seems to be playing the SAME EXACT character in a movie he did in 1993 called Downfall. Why? I don't know!!! Watch this and then find the Downfall/Nic Cage montage on YouTube. The director of Downfall, Christopher Coppola, Nic's real-life brother, turns up playing - Nicolas Cage's brother!! He meets with a quick death at Nic's hands. This stuff ALMOST makes Arnenal worth your time. Oh and John Cusack turns up in a small part as an undercover relative of Mikey and J.P., phoning in his performance. But NIC CAGE!!! WOW!!! That's all I can say repeatedly, NIC CAGE!!
