THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

American Sniper is #20 of 2015. It is a harrowing look at war in general and the Iraqi War in particular. Bradley Cooper absolutely transforms into real-life sniper Chris Kyle, who had 160 confirmed kills in four tours of duty. He battles PTSD when he returns and tries to get his head on straight. Director Clint Eastwood captures the horror and confusion of war without making it political, a wise move. One battle sequence in a sandstorm is particularly uncomfortable and unimaginable from the standpoint of the soldiers. Cooper does some of his best work even, and richly deserves his Oscar nomination. This is more than just a war picture. You should see.
