THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

AMERICAN ASSASSIN (2017)

Dylan O’Bryan is your action star here – he and his girlfriend, who has he just proposed to, are on a foreign beach somewhere and suddenly, armed terrorists appear and start mowing down innocents in cold blood – including his fiancé.  We jump ahead in time where he has devoted his life to getting revenge.  He’s done enough to infiltrate a terrorist cell when the CIA appears and kills them all – which is good for O’Bryan because they were suspicious of him and about to kill him. A deputy director of the CIUA sees something in him and sends him off with master assassin Stan, played by Michael Keaton.  Keaton tries to teach him, but is concerned that he’s too uncontrollable.  And of course he goes his own way on the first chance he gets.  The story is about trying to track a ton of missing plutonium which the CIA things is going to be used by rebel Iranians to blow up Israel.  Keaton is always watchable but the rest of American Assassin is pretty generic and  you’ll forget about it about 15 minutes after you watch it.  And exploding atomic bombs are no big deal if Dylan O’Bryan is on the case.
