ALOHA (2015)

This was another bad choice on an airplane for me.  Limited movie selections – and I had been warned to stay away from this one despite its cast and director Cameron Crowe. But I looked at that cast again and said, “how bad can this be?”  And the answer – well, it’s obvious, isn’t it?  Bradley Cooper is a military contractor returning to Hawaii from some rotten business in Kabul where he was injured.  Perky fighter pilot Emma Stone is assigned to be with him everywhere he goes, to keep an eye on him.  Now why would you pull a fighter pilot from duty to have her be an escort to a military contactor?  ‘Cause the script says so.  Oh and his ex-girlfriend Rachel McAdams is there, who still carries a bit of a torch for him.  And her husband,  military pilot John Krasinski, is a buddy of Cooper’s .  He’s concerned about the two of them still having feelings for each other – and he’s right to be concerned.  Anyway, fighter pilot Stone starts falling for him, we meet nefarious billionaire Bill Murray, who Cooper is working for.  Murray has some very controversial plans to put some satellites in orbit – but these satellites will have a few extras.  Alec Baldwin is barely in this as a general who barks at Cooper and can’t stand him.  Aloha means hello and goodbye in Hawaii – which fits this film perfectly because I don’t know if it’s coming or going half the time.  Characters do things for inexplicable reasons – especially Stone’s fighter pilot.  It’s nice to see this group of actors do anything – but you will shake your head half the time.  Poor script that may have been severely edited after shooting, Aloha is a mess.

SHOULD TLA SEE THIS? Better she should seek out a Hawaii 5-0 rerun.
