CAN HE DO IT?

THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

#138 of 2016 is The Accountant. Ah yes. The trailer was extremely insane. Like a parody of a thriller trailer. Well, wait til you see the movie! Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) is an accountant with absolutely no social skills who cannot make eye contact but is still extremely good at his job. But his strip mall storefront hides an international practice where he fixes the books for anyone who will pay - drug cartels, mobsters, you name it! The Treasury Department has bee...n trying to track him for years. Meanwhile he takes a legit job trying to figure out where John Lithgow's company is leaking money. And that's when a spot of trouble starts for him and for chatty employee Dana who found the leak (Anna Kendrick) and has no idea why, all of a sudden, people are trying to kill her. This plays out for a surprising amount of humor (Affleck is spot on with a deadpan look, amazing aim with any type of firearm and tremendous hand-to- hand combat abilities - imagine Batman with autism) but the film is quite engaging. The connective tissue between all of the characters is strong and surprising (JK Simmons, Jeffrey Tambor, Jon Bernthal all impress). The Accountant is goofy fun that easily could have been made by the Funny or Die people as a parody. But it's better than that. This is definitely something different and should be seen when it opens this weekend! Recommended.
