7 CHINESE BROTHERS (2013)

#86 of the year and #6 of the Reel East Film Festival is the area premiere of the new Jason Schwartzman film 7 Chinese Brothers. It's a slacker slice of life where Jason gets fired from a job, gets another and seems to care only about his grandmother (Olympia Dukakis) and his bulldog Arrow (his real pet bulldog). There is very little plot here as nothing really dramatic or terribly funny happens. And when something happens that could be dramatic - it isn't. 7CB seems to veer into obvious improv once in awhile, which is always a bad sign for me. Stephen Root is the funniest thing in this film as his grandmother's lawyer who always ends up doing the inappropriate thing! Opens in theaters and on ITunes on August 28th.
