THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

THE GOAL FOR 2018: 200 MOVIES WATCHED BY MIDNIGHT NEW YEAR'S EVE!  (AFTER TOPPING OUT AT 194 in 2017)

CAN HE DO IT?

THE 5th WAVE (2016)

The 5th Wave is fifth-rate entertainment. Taken from the young adult novel of the same name, earth is attacked by aliens in different waves (they create a total power blackout, huge earthquakes, a pandemic bird flu, huge tsunamis). Pretty much all that's left is a bunch of teenagers and pre-teens who are grabbed by the surviving adult military and forced to go thru boot camp to fight the aliens (!) These scenes are laughable especially the scenes in the barracks that mimic ...old war movies - but with kids! Liev Schreiber is the military commander who sends these junior high soldiers out on missions to find and kill alien snipers, who now look like humans. Now WHY do aliens who have done all the stuff I have previously described have to run around on the ground like the humans they are trying to stamp out??? How come the military jeeps and buses work when all other cars are dead? Is Liev really what he appears to be? Will I die of boredom typing all of this? Chloë Grace Moretz is really good as the teen who suddenly is dealing with all of this life and death stuff but she cannot breathe life into this slow-moving film that seems to only exist to set up a sequel. Avoid under any circumstances. #27 of 2016
