THE WEBER MOVIE COUNTDOWN

THE GOAL FOR 2018: 200 MOVIES WATCHED BY MIDNIGHT NEW YEAR'S EVE!  (AFTER TOPPING OUT AT 194 in 2017)

CAN HE DO IT?

#31   41 (2012)

#31 is 41. No, wait, this isn't new math - this is a 2012 Australian film called 41. This is an ultra low budget film about Aidan (Chris Gibson), who one day encounters someone who looks EXACTLY like him and warns him to stay away from a local motel. Of course he cannot resist going there, where he bumps into an old girlfriend. He gives her a ride home but has a one-car accident that claims her life. For some reason, the authorities suspect foul play on his part. And an ...old lunatic in his hospital ward also mentions the motel and, specifically, Room 41. Well, he sneaks out of the hospital and goes to the motel room where there seems to be a hole in the floor of the bathroom that leads to - yesterday! He goes 12 hours back in time to try and fix things and - well, let's say things don't get fixed very easily. There are some things in the story that don't really add up BUT writer/director Glenn Triggs makes up for that with some extremely clever ideas about the repercussions and the perceived realities of how honest-to-goodness time travel of this sort could really affect the world Aidan lives in. I love these sorts of stories so I am most definitely prejudiced in 41's favor. If you find this stuff intriguing, take a look. There's a sweet, touching decision made by Aidan to influence something in the past that just made the movie for me. It's available free on YouTube.
