THE GOAL FOR 2018: 200 MOVIES WATCHED BY MIDNIGHT NEW YEAR'S EVE!  (AFTER TOPPING OUT AT 194 in 2017)

CAN HE DO IT?

Wow.  What a major misfire this was.  Gil (Robert DeNiro) is a knife salesman.  He screws up his marriage, his visits with his wife, his career with what once was his father’s knife company.  But none of that stuff matters because his beloved San Francisco Giants have signed $40 million-dollar-player Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes) to a contract!  But Bobby’s slumping and pressing hard – maybe because he can’t have his precious number 11 (Benicio Del Toro already has it and he’s not giving it up).  Gil decides he can help – BY KILLING ONE OF HIS PRECIOUS GIANTS!!  And then The Fan REALLY gets ludicrous – DeNiro plays one of his standard crazies so we all knew where this was going from minute one, Ellen Barkin plays a radio talk show host like no other ever seen by these eyes, John Leguizamo is Bobby’s agent who apparently controls all interviews for his client.  Yeah, right.  And the baseball scenes here degenerate into being as realistic as the end of The Naked Gun.  I am not kidding.  NOT KIDDING.  The Fan is one of the worst films of any kind seen here – but the baseball stuff is a joke.  Who at MLB read the script and agreed that their teams and likenesses should be seen here??  I’m guessing they were let go a looooong time ago…Phillies fans: ex- Phil John Kruk is in this and he’s billed in the opening titles.  But he’s not here much.
