THE GOAL FOR 2018: 200 MOVIES WATCHED BY MIDNIGHT NEW YEAR'S EVE!  (AFTER TOPPING OUT AT 194 in 2017)

CAN HE DO IT?

200 MOTELS (1971)

#117 is a weird one (stop me if you've heard this before). While looking thru what Infinity Streampix had to offer I suddenly saw 200 Motels (1971)! What the heck is Frank Zappa's uber-experimental film doing among these mainstream boring offerings? This film was shot on video and transferred back to film and features all sorts of surreal visuals, musical sequences that were shot live and not dubbed later, Ringo Starr as Frank Zappa, the Mothers of Invention as themselves and Theodore Bikel (!). Imagine if someone had dosed the cast and crew of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In with acid. That kind of resembles what 200 Motels is like. Nothing linear at all but a real curiosity piece. Glad I stumbled on it.

TLA one-word review: trippy (for the second movie in a row!)
