10 CLOVERFIELD LANE (2016)

#35 is a must see. 10 Cloverfield Lane should be seen merely for John Goodman's performance (although there are plenty of other reasons to see it). Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Wansted) wakes up after a car crash to find herself on an IV and chained to a pipe. Howard (Goodman) explains that he rescued her from said car crash before nukes or aliens or whatever they were had a chance to kill her and brought her to his fortified underground bunker. Also there is handyman Emmitt ...(John Gallagher Jr.), who said he saw a flash like nothing he ever saw before and fought to get inside Howard's bunker. Is Howard telling the truth? Or did he abduct her? Emmitt isn't quite sure what he saw. What makes this is Goodman dancing perfectly between warm avuncular father figure and batshit crazy guy. He is the main reason this film works so well. And what about the title - a cousin to the monster/alien movie Cloverfield! Is Howard right? Or is he just a nutball? I can't say any more but all three actors are right on their game and you will wonder right up til the end when all is made clear. Recommended.
